The food of love
Rosemary & Loyalty | Saffron & Sensuality | Honey & Sweetness
For centuries, herbs and spices have spoken the language of love. At Vista Lakefront Boutique Hotel, this ancient symbolism becomes a culinary experience – sensual, surprising, unforgettable.
Rosemary and loyalty
Rosemary grows magnificently in the mild climate of Lake Maggiore. The ancient Romans would wear it at weddings as a symbol of loyalty and remembrance. In ancient times, the plant was also associated with memory; students in ancient Greece wove sprigs of rosemary into their hair to boost their concentration. Its symbolism was also carried through into the Middle Ages: rosemary was burnt at weddings and laid out on banqueting tables to evoke constancy and solidarity. You’ll also find its fragrance hanging in the air at Vista Lakefront Boutique Hotel’s al Pontile restaurant, its Mediterranean aroma perfectly at home in its lakeside surroundings.
Saffron and sensuality
Saffron gives the famous Risotto Milanese its golden-yellow colour, and those who use it are well aware of its worth. Even in ancient times, saffron was traded as a luxury product and transported over great distances. Hand-picked from thousands of flowers, saffron was more precious than gold for centuries. Its intense colour and warm, slightly bitter fragrance made it a symbol of power, wealth, and sensuality. The Persians once called it the spice of lovers. And of course, it also tastes absolutely sublime, for example during a romantic dinner.
Honey and sweetness
Honey drips slowly from the spoon, golden and seductively sweet. Even in the earliest civilisations, it was considered a divine gift and was placed in burial chambers as it was believed to last forever. In Greek mythology, honey nourished the gods of Olympus and symbolised eternal youth. Speaking of seductive: the Greeks once dedicated the golden liquid to Aphrodite, the goddess of love. To this day, honey symbolises fertility, prosperity, and devotion.
We wish you an incredibly precious, delicious time together at Lake Maggiore.
