Your must-sees around Ascona and Lake Maggiore

Boat ride:

From Ascona, you can easily reach Locarno and other lakeside destinations by boat – equal parts quick and fun!

The Borgo:

You don’t have to go far to see something special. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through the lanes and galleries of Ascona and soak up the lakeside flair.

Stroll:

At the lakeside market from April to October (the location changes each day; every Tuesday in Ascona, near to Ascona on the other days – fantastic for a boat trip), you can discover Ticino specialities and regional products

City fun, part one: Lugano:

Easy to reach by train from Locarno train station. The lovely city beckons with art galore and cosy eateries for refreshments.

City fun, part two: a short trip to Milan:

The cathedral, the Galleria shopping gallery, the art – need we go on?

E-bike:

Enjoy a relaxed ride through the stunning area around Ascona. The cycle path takes you to Locarno. If you’d like to ride further, we recommend other bike routes, such as the one to Maggia valley.

Island dream:

The Brissago islands and the botanical gardens located there are an especially beautiful sight. You can easily reach the islands by boat.

Lido:

Enjoy a day at Ascona’s beach with radiant sunshine, spacious sunbathing areas, and a range of water activities.

Shopping:

A trip to the “Foxtown” outlet centre in Mendrisio (approx. 40 minutes away by car). You can look forward to browsing around more than 160 shops here. Also open on Sundays.

Funicular:

The historic Mount Brè funicular lets you reach pilgrimage destination Madonna del Sasso, which stands on a rocky outcrop, in comfort. The journey alone is fantastically panoramic, and if you wish, you can also continue to the Mount Brè/Cardada Cimetta viewing platform. There is a small ski area here in winter (snow conditions permitting).

Dam:

It’s an incredible 220 metres high, is located in the middle of Lake Vogorno, and even played a supporting role in the James Bond film “Golden Eye”. We’re talking about the Verzasca dam in the valley of the same name. Daredevils can also leap from the dam on a bungee cord! You can learn all about the impressive structure in the dam museum.

Valleys:

Ascona is surrounded by stunning, idyllic valleys that invite you to walk, explore, and relax.  For example, you can pay a visit to Maggia valley (the largest valley in Italian-speaking Switzerland) or Verzasca valley and unwind by the river, discover the villages, and admire the awe-inspiring stone bridges.

Pedal boat:

Directly on the promenade outside our Vista Lakefront Boutique Hotel, you can rent a pedal boat and head out onto the lake.

Hikes:

You can look forward to an impressive 1,400km network of hiking trails around Lake Maggiore. Lace up your hiking boots and let your adventure begin!

Water fun:

In the “Splash e Spa Tamaro” waterpark (approx. 30 minutes away by car). For a day full of fun in the water and on the slides (the water slides are truly spectacular).

Wellness indulgence:

In the Thermalbad Spa in Locarno.
